Get Organized: 10 Ways to Keep Your Sanity

Daily tasks lists contain activities ranging from the mundane to the sublime. The different nature and sheer quantity of these activities can boggle the mind and create stress if your day is not structured and organized well. So here are some tips on how to sail through an activity-packed life with minimal stress.

1.       Start with a list. It’s obvious, but begin your day by making a list of the various tasks or activities you want to carry out. Many people skip this step and it creates a day of chaos from the very start. Prioritizing the tasks based on their importance and urgency of completion will also help. Doing this helps you plan the time you will need to spend on each task, thereby accomplishing those which are most important and urgent.

2.       Carry over the things you didn’t get done. At the end of the day check which activities you might not have been able to complete and put it into your next day’s ‘to - do’ list so that they do not get missed out

3.       Get tidy. At home or at work, keep your home and office space tidy on a daily basis so that things do not pile up. For example, at home, fold and put away your laundry daily instead of allowing it to pile up until the weekend. At the office file away or deal with important paperwork as you are working so that you do not see a pile waiting for your attention a week later. This will help you be much more stress free.

4.       Put it on your calendar. Organize your work more effectively by marking key activities on your calendar right at the beginning of the month or week, e.g. meetings, follow-up reminders on deadlines you need to meet, travel plans, etc. so that you are well in control of your time. This small bit of organization on the front end can lead to a lot of peace especially when you have multiple and possibly overlapping deadlines.

5.       Take 5 minutes and prepare ahead of meetings. Before you attend any meeting go through relevant documents on the subject in advance and jot down areas of discussion that you would like to take up so that you not only resolve your queries but also get noticed for your insightful contributions.

6.       Make a shopping list. When you go shopping, write down all that you need to buy first, so that you use your time effectively and efficiently and avoid having to rush back to the store for an item you miss having bought. There are several great iPhone and Android shopping list apps available and they streamline the process.

7.       Remember the key dates. Mark important personal events on your calendar so that you will not forget birthdays, wedding anniversaries, etc. Your friends and family will appreciate your thoughtfulness and fostering these relationships will help your mood.

8.       Plan your time to fit in both work and play. Consciously organize your time so that you spend a healthy amount of time on work and personal interests or hobbies. This will go a long way in maintaining a good work-life balance which is a sure remedy for dealing with life’s daily pressures and stresses.

9.       Eat well, Eat often. Spending time on your health is also helpful in maintaining a calm and peaceful life. Ensure that you eat proper portions of food by measuring what and how much you eat. Having 5 small meals in a day, every 3 to 4 hours, with proper servings of vegetables and fruits is preferable to consuming 2 or 3 large meals.

10.   Fit in exercise.  Similarly, make sure that you organize your daily schedule to include at least half an hour of exercise five times in a week. Walking or jogging are great, inexpensive options. Exercise encourages peace and mental serenity by enhancing blood circulation and releasing stress relieving hormones.

Follow these tips to guarantee that you feel more organized, confident and stress free!

Joining a social network? First, start with the people you know.

When starting to build and grow your social network contacts, the most natural and effective way to begin is with the people you already know. Personal friends, family members, co-workers and neighbors will almost always welcome the opportunity to join with you on their favorite social sites. If you are new to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, or another social network and wondering where to start, you need look no further than your address book. You will find that many of the people you know are already on social sites, just waiting to interact with you.

Most social networking sites allow you to import contacts from a web-based e-mail account (Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo!, etc.) or other social sites. Take advantage of this feature to make sure nobody slips through the cracks. In some cases, the site will store your contacts and alert you when somebody on your list registers an account. However, this isn’t always the case, so it’s recommended that you periodically check your contacts for any new users.

Your personal contacts will often recommend other people you may have lost touch with. A mutual friend may point you towards an old college friend you haven’t spoken to in years. Family members can reunite if time and distance have come between them. One of the most rewarding aspects of social networking is that you can re-establish some of those connections that you’ve missed out on for far too long.

If you run a business and want to use social networks to reach new customers, the best leads you get will be personal recommendations from existing clients, colleagues or friends and family. You should make it a top priority to supply them with an easy way to reach you online, so get in touch with them as soon as you start using social sites.

There will always be time to actively search out new contacts. The Internet isn’t going anywhere. After establishing a solid base of contacts, you can look for people who share interests, geographic location, school background, profession, or anything else you can think of that brings people together. Hopefully by the time you do, you will have some momentum behind your online presence, and can leverage it effectively.
